Ian has successfully represented a number of trainee teachers at NQT induction appeals
before the General Teaching Council, and provides training on the new framework for
NQT and teacher conduct appeals.
Other areas of work include exclusion appeals and special needs tribunals, pupil
discipline, governors, school finance & property, free schools and academies, SEN
& disability, awards & grants, and Ombudsman complaints.
Ian appears regularly on BBC TV & radio and in the national press to comment about
school appeals and the admissions system.
Ian also undertakes a wide range of other direct access work (usually for a fixed
fee), as well as accepting instructions from solicitors. This includes providing
advice, drafting documents and attending hearings at all levels of courts, tribunals
and appeal panels.
As a school governor, Ian has hands-on experience of many of the issues facing governing
bodies and can give practical legal advice to schools, local authorities, Diocesan
bodies and parents.
